This study examines the invisible spiritual reality behind the 17th century persecution of Christians and the subsequent spiritual strongholds that were established. These barriers are still effectively holding the Japanese people in bondage. Through this Evangelical account you'll learn how to minister to Japanese and how to pray for them.

But its too expensive for just a mere booklet. This is just a tiny booklet and it is really short. It provides some good insight and will be helpful to those interested in getting involved in Japan ministries. The information provided centers mostly around the Tokugawa changes which have impacted the nation till today. It is not as in depth as you will find in books from Samuel Lee, like Understanding Japan or Rediscovering Japan. His books detail things further. However, he is more of a fact puller and historian, so how best to deal with strongholds in Japan is not always presented. This does give some useful tips on dealing with them. But the solutions given to dealing with strongholds leave you with questions which aren't answered, they could be a little more written out. It is just very brief and for the price, over $10 I paid, I don't feel it really was worth it. I was expecting a thicker book that really provided a meat of information, not a booklet.

Ultimately, get it on sale if you can. It, in some ways, is a decent entry book. Gives you an idea of the problems without really doing a full study and it is quick to read. But I knock off two stars just because I think the author could really expand it better. Then also for the price. This is at most a sub $5 booklet.

Overcoming Spiritual Barriers in Japan edition by Keith E Webb Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

This book gives the background as to what holds the Japanese people in such spiritual bondage. After reading it, I sent it to a missionary in Japan. He read it in an hour and agreed with everything written there. For anyone who wants to minister to Japanese, this book is a must!
Useful resource for anyone interested in Christian ministry among the Japanese. This little volume is well worth meditating upon and valuable for focusing prayer.
I was very excited to find out about this book. My wife and I have a burden for Japan. While we would love to be missionaries there someday we are not at that point yet. This book provides some very valuable insight on how to pray for Japan. It takes a look at some of major choices that were made by a select few and the ramifications that are still be felt today. I highly recommend this book as a historic spiritual reference point and as a guide on how to pray for the strong holds in Japan.
This book sheds real light on the reasons it is so difficult to evangelize the Japanese. It comes with prayer directions in the back.
For Christians who want to learn how to pray for Japan, this is a must read book. When we pray for a nation, we need to know why things are what they are now by investigating the root and the cause. This book provides the much needed answers on Japanese spiritual reality. More like a study guide book for those interested in spiritual mapping.

Even if you are not a Christian, this is still an interesting book to learn about the history of Japan. How did the Tokugawa family come into power? How did the First Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu become "God" and he was enshrined at Nikkō Tōshō-gū. Every year there are two celebrations to remember this Shogunate. Why 460 years ago this country experienced Christian revival, today Japan is called the burial ground of Missionaries. You need to read this book to find out.
This book revolutionized my prayer for Japan's release from historical constrictions which, living in Japan, I observe squeezing the life out of Japanese people, sometimes quite literally. It was written while some friends and I were earnestly praying for light on these issues, and although I did not discover it until a number of years after it was written, it was a very welcome find. The cover is simple, yet striking, the organization is smooth and concise, and the prayer suggestions in the back are succinct. However, when I conducted a marketing study on the book to determine its appropriateness for translation into Japanese, I got the comment that all the references were from Western sources, and that it did not do justice to Japanese cultural distinctives. It was with disappointment that I received the consensus that the book did not merit translation into Japanese, in part, just because of the constricted thinking it describes. However, I continue to find it a helpful resource for praying and recruiting others to pray for the largest unreached people group in the world.
